WELCOME TO THE WEST AUCKLAND HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Our dramatic landscape, defined by three spectacular shorelines, has ensured that things were done in a unique way. There is a distinct flavour to the way that our history unfolds. The Waitematā, Manukau and Tasman are the landing places for that history. Our location and area of study is between those shores

The society is vitally interested in stories of the recent and distant past which enrich the present. We do this by advocating, promoting and facilitating research, preservation and conservation. A primary aspect of our role is publishing those stories.

Mill Cottage, on the historic site of Henderson’s Mill, is the home of the West Auckland Historical Society. It is also our heritage centre for research and displays. Volunteers, including those from our Family History Group, are available for advice on Saturdays and by appointment.
